Where care meets comfort: New long-term care homes for BC seniors
The Long-term care (LTC) Program’s Mission at Island Health is to foster a vibrant and innovative long-term care community that nurtures and inspires hope, choice, and meaning.
To address the region’s growing and aging population, increasingly complex healthcare needs, and the significant need for more long-term care on Vancouver Island, we're building three new LTC homes in Campbell River, Nanaimo/Lantzville and Colwood.
Campbell River
- 153 beds on four-acre site
- 10 beds for hospice care
- Preference for all net new beds
- Adult day program and child daycare
Nanaimo/Lantzville
- 306 beds on nine-acre forested site
- 20 beds for hospice care
- Preference for all net new beds
- Adult day program and child daycare
Colwood
- 306 beds on five acre site
- 20 beds for hospice care
- Preference for all net new beds
- Adult day program and child daycare
Design Concepts and Features
Each LTC home will include a child daycare, adult day program, and hospice beds.
The homes will incorporate lessons learned and principles of Dementia Villages, and provide ready access to outdoor and walking spaces.
While each project will be unique to its site and community needs, a primary focus of the initiative is to provide consistent functional design elements across all locations to ensure equitable services and care for all residents.
Construction Updates
Preliminary sitework is underway at all three sites with construction slated to begin in late 2024/early 2025. Please check back here for updates.

Lantzville Open Houses: September 11, 12 and 15.
If you live in Lantzville and are interested in learning more about the exciting new long-term care project in your community, please join us at one of three open houses to hear from the project team and have your questions answered.
Open houses will take place on the following dates at the Costin Hall, 7232 Lantzville Rd, Lantzville, BC V0R 2H0.
Each open house will cover the same content. Everyone is welcome and there is no need to RSVP.
- Wednesday, September 11, 1 – 3 p.m.
- Thursday, September 12, 9 – 11 a.m.
- Sunday, September 15, 3 – 5 p.m.
