Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island plays an important role in supporting children and youth with disabilities and health challenges and their families. Our roots go back to 1927 and we were previously known as the Queen Alexandra Foundation for Children. Much of our shared history and success is related to supporting children in need of specialized rehabilitation and mental health services delivered by staff at the Queen Alexandra Centre for Children’s Health. In addition we support many programs across Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands delivered by community organizations and we share a long and meaningful partnership with Island Health..
Today we help make a difference in the lives of children in many ways and we target our funding in three focus areas:
1. Great Beginnings – providing children 0 to 5 years of age with specialized early intervention services that aim to promote a child’s functional skills, community participation, peer interaction, and quality of life.
2. Tools to Succeed – providing children and youth with the therapeutic services, specialized equipment, transition supports and opportunities for social interaction so they can lead full and inclusive lives within their family and community.
3. Caring for Families – providing supports and resources to parents and families so they can successfully parent and care for their children who have extra needs.
In 2015/16, Children’s Health Foundation will invest over $2.2 million to improve the health of island children. Our work is only possible because of the compassion and generosity of our donors.
