Marko is the Vice President, Pandemic Planning. In this temporary role, under the leadership of the Deputy Minister of Health and Provincial Health Officer, Marko oversees Island Health’s pandemic response to COVID-19 and vaccination campaign, monitors analytics and modelling on a provincial scale, and will provide critical guidance as we transition from pandemic to endemic.

Marko holds the role of Executive Director for Clinical Service Delivery in the Greater Victoria area, a role that he has temporarily stepped out of while he works on pandemic planning.  As a clinical leader, he has experience in all areas of health system delivery and has a deep understanding and appreciation for the connections between acute care, primary care, and community care.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Marko has was the section lead for Acute Care pandemic operations – tapping into his leadership experience with key program areas, including: emergency, medicine, rehab, surgery, critical care and patient flow at both Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospitals in Victoria. 

Marko started his career in health-care as a nurse and quickly moved into the role of health care leader, with continued training and education in management, communications, change and cultural safety.
