Building Description

Our facility has followed evidence-based build design guidelines to address resident isolation, helplessness and boredom and support a philosophy wherein the physical environment has more of a home-like design rather than institutional. It is barrier free (but supportive of healthy wandering). It is a level entry building designed to fit into the local neighbourhood.

14 units opened in 2006. An additional 22 units opened in 2009. Total sq. ft. 22,303 or 2,072 sq. m. The kitchen is the centre of the building with common areas adjacent. Evergreen advances “The Neighbourhood Concept” with wings called “Neighbourhoods” that have been named after residents who were the first to occupy and in some cases are still occupants. This is meaningful to residents/families and provides a feeling of ownership/perpetuity. Neighbourhoods range from six to 14 units.

Resident rooms are a spacious 256 sq. ft. or 24 sq. m., tastefully decorated in soft colours, with furniture consisting of an electric low bed, bedside table, dresser, armoire and beside table. Evergreen Seniors Home has a warm, welcoming and happy atmosphere. So many people comment on the look and feel of Evergreen and how the minute they walk in the door they feel the warmth and love of our Evergreen community/family.

Philosophy of Care

Our philosophy is to honour Personhood and strive to provide Person-Centred Care in an environment in which each Person in Care is recognized and respected for their own unique needs, preferences, strengths, limitations, values, goals and dreams. Our holistic, person-centred care model focuses on a person’s strengths and remaining abilities. Our care plans focus on how we can support a person to feel independent yet safe and happy. We strive to consider the “whole” person and not focus on the disease or disability. What are the person’s goals, needs, wants, and wishes? Quality of life and quality of care is better served by realizing that the person is more important than the task. Activities focus on restorative and recreational goals – physically and otherwise – we advance improvements to strength and balance that have a direct correlation to reduced falls and injury and a better quality of life.

Our Vision of Quality of life for Persons in Care as they age in place in safe and stimulating environments.
