Philosophy of Care

In compassionate Christian love, we sustain and improve the quality of life for seniors by providing care, shelter, support and community interaction. We do this by providing a spectrum of programs and services to enrich the physical, spiritual, intellectual and emotional lives of those we serve.

The model is a socially based model which has a number of differences from the more traditional medically based model.

The model operates out of the assumption that Luther Court is a person's home. The people who live here are not in a hospital. And though there is ready access to the best practice in terms of medical knowledge and nursing care, the first and primary focus is that this is the person's home. It is here that they participate in all the day-to-day activities that are essential for life and also those pursuits which impart particular meaning and purpose to the individual. Everyone has a place at the table. All of this is lived out within a community of care.

Type of Accommodation

All clients have single rooms with a two-piece bathroom. Rooms are furnished with a bed, closet organizer and night table. We encourage clients to personalize their rooms with a favourite chair, photos and other memorabilia.

Cost

Clients pay 80% of their after tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation.

Special Recreational Opportunities

Professional nursing staff are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Meals and refreshments, as well as special diets, are provided.

Luther Court offers a comprehensive activity program which includes activities tailored to the needs of each individual client. A wide range of activities includes reminiscence, reading groups, exercises, crafts, word games, birthday celebrations, cook-outs, carpet bowling, van drives and musical entertainment.

Music Therapy is a key program available to all Luther Court Complex Care Clients. We strive to empower residents to be as independent in their activities of daily living and provide supports to allow them to remain self-sufficient as well as offer opportunities for them to complete useful tasks for the good of the whole community.
