Building Description
Nigel House is a beautiful new four-story building opened in 2025, and is conveniently located in the Nigel Valley on Vernon Avenue, across from Save-On Foods plaza and
Uptown Shopping Centre. The building has a large main dining room, patios, activity and media room, and resident lounges on each floor.

Broadmead Care is a non-profit, secular organization that supports the beliefs, faith, and culture of the people who live and work in their Homes.
We support people to maintain their spiritual connections and are happy to help them stay connected with their church, faith tradition, or spiritual support group.
Broadmead Care has a Spiritual Coordinator available to assist residents and staff, and to host special multi-denominational services throughout the year.

Cost
Residents pay 80% of their after-tax income up to a maximum rate. This covers the cost of food, cleaning, laundry, accommodation, and subsidized care. For more information on

Accessibility
Nigel House is completely wheelchair accessible, with automatic door openers and elevator access. Outdoor areas, including courtyards and gardens, are also wheelchair accessible.
Motorized Scooter Policy
Those wishing to use power mobility equipment (including power wheelchairs and scooters) must be assessed by Therapy Services’ Occupational or Physical Therapist before the equipment may be used. All assistive devices and adaptive equipment must be stored in the resident’s room.
Pet Policy
While pets are not permitted to live at the Home, Broadmead Care welcomes visiting pets and recognizes the importance and value that pets have for many people. All visiting pets
must be leashed at all times, have current vaccinations, and be well mannered. Pets are not allowed in any area where food is prepared or served. Broadmead Care has a number of Pet Therapy Volunteers who visit with their pets.
Smoking Policy
Residents may smoke in designated outside areas only. Smoking within the building is strictly prohibited. For everyone’s safety, resident smoking is monitored and controlled. If
a resident smokes in non-designated areas or in an unsafe manner, their smoking materials will be retained and managed by staff. If a resident has repeated incidents of
unsafe smoking, he or she will not be permitted to continue smoking on the grounds of the Care Home. Assistance with smoking cessation will be offered. In response to
regulations and policies from the Provincial Tobacco Control Regulations and Island Health, staff, volunteers, and visitors are not allowed to smoke on any Broadmead Care
property.
Safety/Security Features
Broadmead Care has policies, procedures, and systems related to building security, resident smoking, and fire and emergency procedures, including:
- Regular fire inspections and drills
- Fire sprinklers
- Doors secured with magnetic release buttons/keypads
- Video monitoring
- Secured entrance(s)

Nigel House is one of five care homes in the South Island owned and operated by Broadmead Care. Our goal is to create a homelike environment for people and their
families, with experiences and activities that honour their life history, support their abilities, and maintain their dignity. Nigel House is designed to give residents access to
safe spaces and secure gardens with plenty of natural light. Amenities at Nigel House include: creative arts, music therapy, fitness programs, and community outings and
excursions. Fundraising at Nigel House, a Broadmead Care Home, provides enhanced programs and services to open the door for extraordinary relationships to flourish.
Parking
Limited street parking is available for no charge.
Visiting Information
As this is the residents’ home, visiting hours are open to family and friends. Nigel House welcomes visitors at any time, based on the conditions, care needs, and
expressed wishes of the residents.
If the front entrance is locked, please ring the intercom to be let in. You are asked to sign our guest logbook when you visit. Find information on long-term care visitor guidelines here.
Please contact Nigel House to learn more about visiting this location. During viral respiratory illness season (typically December - March), we follow the
Provincial Health Officer’s direction to help protect residents from respiratory illness.Provincial policy requires all visitors to be informed: "Violence, foul language and abusive
behaviours are not acceptable. Verbal threats or acts of violence will not be tolerated and
may result in removal from this facility and/or prosecution.”
