Cumberland Lodge is fully accredited through Accreditation Canada.

Built in 1977 and located in the hub of the Village of Cumberland, just a few blocks to downtown area, fire hall and ambulance station. Built on 3.82 acres.
Cumberland Lodge is comprised of three units named Ambleside, Union, and the Beaufort Unit (Special Care Unit). All units have access to a our on-site kitchen, dining room, family/lounge area, baking/recreation room as well as an outdoor patio and courtyard area.
On-site personal laundry services are provided Monday to Friday and we also have a hair salon for our residents and community members to access Monday to Friday. In the attached Health Center you can access your Pharmacy needs, Renal Dialysis Unit, Health Center Library, and Island Health community laboratory.
Residents are not permitted to use motorized scooters or electric wheel chairs within the facility.
The Comox Valley, with a population over 70,000, is a community located on the east coast of Vancouver Island that includes the city of Courtenay, the town of Comox, the village of Cumberland, and the unincorporated settlements of Royston, Union Bay, Fanny Bay, Black Creek, and Merville.

Model of Medical Care/Physician Organization
Any physician/nurse practitioner currently caring for a resident in the community can choose to continue to follow the resident into LTC at Cumberland Lodge. If the physician chooses not to follow the resident’s care into LTC, we will try to find a physician who already has residents at Cumberland Lodge with capacity to take on the resident’s care. If a physician cannot take on the resident’s care into LTC, the resident will continue to wait on the waitlist until a physician with capacity to do so is available.
- Main Nursing Unit:
- 13 single-occupancy rooms with a private bathroom
- 13 double-occupancy rooms with a private bathroom
- Special Care Unit:
- 26 single-occupancy rooms with a private bathroom
- 1 single-occupancy respite room with a private bathroom
Residents pay 80% of their after-tax income up to a maximum rate. This covers the cost of food, cleaning, laundry, accommodation, and subsidized care.

Residents are encouraged to participate in any of the recreational programs provided. Activities are planned to meet the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social needs of the residents such as crafting, hobbies, games, sports, cultural interests, religious interests, music, gardening, literature, drama, art, pets, and family involvement.
Outings are planned to give residents the opportunity to go out for meals, shopping, drives, and to attend community events. Cumberland Lodge has its very own wheelchair-accessible van to provide transportation.
Many local talents visit the Lodge frequently and provide ongoing entertainment for our residents. Volunteers are also always welcome and play a vital role in providing resident experiences.
The front entrances of the building are at ground level and doors have been equipped with push buttons for automatic doors. Where entrances are not at ground level, sturdy ramps are in place for wheelchair access.
Residents are not permitted to use motorized scooters or electric wheelchairs within the facility.
We recognize the importance and value that pets have for many residents. Animals are not permitted to reside in the LTC home, however, visiting pets are welcome.
Smoking of tobacco, cannabis, or any other substance, including the use of vaping devices, is prohibited on all Island Health owned and operated premises, facilities, and grounds unless within a designated area in accordance with the Smoke Free Premises Policy.
Residents who are able to self-mobilize to the smoking area onsite may smoke at the designated area. Residents can also be supported with a smoking cessation plan.

There is plenty of parking available onsite and accessible parking as well. Access to the Beaufort Unit is available by parking in the back fenced parking lot and entering up the ramp to the main doorway. There is no fee for parking.
As this is the residents’ home, visiting hours are open to family and friends.

During viral respiratory illness season (typically December - March), we follow the Provincial Health Officer’s direction to help protect residents from respiratory illness.
Provincial policy requires all visitors to be informed: "Violence, foul language and abusive behaviours are not acceptable. Verbal threats or acts of violence will not be tolerated and may result in removal from this facility and/or prosecution.”
