All resident rooms are on the ground floor with access to a large treed and fenced yard area as well as a garden patio. It is nestled into the woods around Shawnigan Lake. Rooms vary in size but all have large windows looking out to the lawn or the garden courtyard.

Shawnigan Lake is a small village 20-minute drive south of Duncan and 45-minute drive north of Victoria. The village has a post office, pharmacy, gas station, museum and several little restaurants. The local legion hosts monthly luncheon for the residents. There are nearby parks with access to Shawnigan Lake.
Model of Medical Care/Physician Organization
Residents may be followed by their current physician, if they are able to provide ongoing care. If the resident cannot be followed by their current physician or if they do not have a physician, the facility has a care physician who attends on a regular basis and provides ongoing medical care in conjunction with care staff at the facility.

Residents pay 80% of their after-tax income up to a maximum rate. This covers the cost of food, cleaning, laundry, accommodation, and subsidized care.

At Acacia Ty Mawr, we provide several outings per year including visits to parks, picnic areas, bus rides, visits to beaches and museum. Horse visits bring residents out of their rooms and joy to the community as residents are able to meet and pet these beautiful animals. Musicians visit the care home several times a week to entertain residents.
All resident areas are on the ground floor and are wheelchair accessible.
No motorized scooters or wheelchairs are permitted at this facility.
Pets are welcome to come as visitors. Two beautiful black cats, Rosie and Fergus, have made Acacia Ty Mawr their home. All pets that visit must be well-mannered and leashed at all times, with their vaccinations up to date. Pets are not allowed in areas where food is prepared or served. Live-in pets are not permitted.
Acacia Ty Mawr is a non-smoking facility. Residents whom smoke are required to do so independently, or with a personal companion in designated areas off of the care home property.

Community churches alternate visiting Acacia Ty Mawr to provide Sunday services.

During viral respiratory illness season (typically December - March), we follow the Provincial Health Officer’s direction to help protect residents from respiratory illness.
Provincial policy requires all visitors to be informed: "Violence, foul language and abusive behaviours are not acceptable. Verbal threats or acts of violence will not be tolerated and may result in removal from this facility and/or prosecution.”
