Building Description

This six-storey apartment style residence is conveniently located on Selkirk Waterfront near the Gorge waterway. Close proximity to community resources including the Royal Canadian Legion and local cafes/restaurants. There is a bus stop in front of the building and retail including a pharmacy within six blocks. Outdoor features include inviting grounds, patio areas and a waterfront walkway including the Galloping Goose Trail. There is a complex care facility on the same site.

The building's in-house amenities include a family room, arts and craft room, hair salon, tuck shop, wellness centre, library/sun room, recreation room, resident kitchen and family dining room.

Neighbourhood/Community Amenities

Burnside Community Centre, Tim Horton’s and Mayfair Mall within three to five blocks. Bus stop out back on Gorge Road.

Cost

Residents in publicly subsidized units pay 70% of their after-tax income which covers:

  • monthly rental accommodation
  • hospitality services: two meals daily, weekly housekeeping, laundry, etc.
  • personal care
  • on-site emergency response system

Residents on income assistance pay a flat rate. Items not included as a part of the monthly fee include: telephone, cable, hydro, personal laundry (if not part of care plan), household and toiletry supplies, medications, personal care products and insurance.

Private pay residents pay set rate per month and which does not include personal care costs.

Special Recreational Opportunities

Selkirk Place offers a wide variety of recreation and leisure programs, lead by friendly and qualified recreation staff members, under the direction of the Recreation Therapist. Each resident is encouraged and supported to increase personal wellness in their physical, social, emotional, spiritual and cognitive domains, through recreation participation and exploration.

Residents can choose to enjoy baking and special meals in the resident kitchen; explore arts and crafts in the Studio; read and relax in the sun lounge; sing, dance or watch movies in the recreation room; or challenge themselves to a group crossword puzzle in the fireside Lounge. Friends and family are encouraged to attend special events as a resident’s guest.

Outdoor programs are scheduled regularly in the courtyard/patios and/or in the Selkirk Waterfront neighbourhood.
