Travel assistance for non-emergency medical care

Island Health provides funding to eight contracted transportation providers, creating a transportation network supporting people in many rural and remote regions who face barriers for needed medical travel outside of their community to an Island Health facility or service. These contractors provide door-to-door, non-emergency patient transportation services, primarily facilitating trips to and from Island Health appointments, facilities, or locations, not within the patient’s own community.

Patients who require appointments outside of their community to services that are not associated with Island Health (private physician/specialist offices, etc.) may be able to utilize provincial programs, such as:
