Karen Haugen is a respected Indigenous leader and the Executive Director of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations. With more than two decades of experience working in Parks Canada, alongside Indigenous communities across Canada, she has dedicated her career to advancing self-governance, economic development, and community well-being. In her leadership role, she guides Huu-ay-aht First Nations through a period of growth and transformation, helping build a prosperous future while preserving the Nation's culture, values, and identity.
Karen is recognized for her collaborative and values-driven leadership style. Karen Haugen was first appointed to the Board of Island Health on June 1, 2026. Her current term expires on May 30, 2027.
