Government direction

Government priorities help guide the care you receive.

What guides our work

The Government of British Columbia sets priorities for health care. These priorities shape what Island Health focuses on, how services are delivered, and how we improve care. They are shared through mandate letters and guide our plans, priorities, and performance.

What this means for you

Government priorities help shape:

  • How quickly you can get care (wait times and access)
  • What services are available in your community
  • Investments in hospitals, programs, and technology
  • Improvements to safety and quality of care

Mandate letters and response

Mandate letters are updated each year and may change after elections or cabinet updates. Island Health reviews them annually and responds through our plans and priorities.
