Presenter: Mark Blandford, President and CEO of Providence Living, with a special announcement by Tom Arnold, Executive Director of Eldercare Foundation.
Session Description: Can long-term care homes be better designed to meet the needs of seniors? What are the latest developments in long-term care home design on Vancouver Island? Light snacks and drinks will be served at the end of this special presentation giving time to network.

In this special Yakimovich Wellness Centre event, learn about Canada's first public, non-profit long-term care home promoting an innovative social relational model of care – Providence Living at The Views – set to open in Comox, BC in July. Inspired by the principles of the dementia village concept, The Views aims to provide a home-like, non-institutional environment that maximizes opportunities for residents to engage, as fully as possible, in familiar, independent, and meaningful lives. You’ll also find out what a key partner of the Yakimovich Wellness Centre – Eldercare Foundation – is doing to ensure that lessons learned at The Views will help improve long-term care for seniors all across Vancouver Island.

Eldercare Foundation (www.gvef.org) is a registered charity that believes every senior deserves the chance to age with dignity. As a partner of the Yakimovich Wellness Centre, they provide funding to promote Wellness Centre sessions and purchase needed equipment like microphones, projectors, tables and chairs. This partnership is part of Eldercare’s work to advance research and education aimed at improving the care available to seniors on Vancouver Island. In addition, Eldercare works to help seniors age safely in place at home, and to enhance long-term care (including at homes like Aberdeen, immediately next door to the Yakimovich Wellness Centre).
