Assisted Living & Long-Term Care Services

Assisted Living & Residential Care Services

Update August 30, 2020

On June 30, 2020, the Ministry of Health and Provincial Health Officer announced changes to the visitor policy to allow for the implementation of designated social visits in Long-Term Care and Assisted Living homes. All of the operators at each facility now have their unique plans in place to safely schedule and support designated social visits, and are engaging with families to let them know of their specific processes.

Facilities will also continue to support essential visits. Long-Term Care facility leadership and the clinical team will determine if a visit is essential. Essential visits include, but are not limited to:
•    Visits for compassionate care (e.g., end-of-life care and critical illness);
•    Visits considered very important to patient/client care and well-being, such as helping with feeding or mobility; and,
•    Registered volunteers that are deemed essential.
