Developmental Disability Mental Health Team

The Developmental Disability Mental Health Team (DDMHT) provides support to youth aged 14-18 years old who have a diagnosed developmental and/or intellectual disability and co-existing mental health issues, challenging behaviour and/or problematic substance use.

DDMHT also provides support to adults aged 19 years and over who have a diagnosed intellectual disability and co-existing mental health issue, challenging behaviours and/or problematic substance use.

The multidisciplinary team aims to support caregivers and families to build their capacity to help manage and support individuals safely in the community.

Services offered

Non-crisis mental health assessment and consultation
Treatment planning in collaboration with clients and members of the community support network
Psychiatric and nursing support with treatment plan implementation

Eligibility requirements

Eligibility is determined by the level of intellectual disability as per the DSM-5 criteria based on deficits in intellectual functioning and deficits in adaptive functioning (core service).

How to get a Referral

Adults (aged 19 or older)

Ask your primary care provider to fax a completed Medical Referral for DDMHT Psychiatric Assessment to 250-519-3518.
Submit referrals and inquiries to Community Living BC (CLBC). A CLBC facilitator can assist and forward your application for services to the Developmental Disability Mental Health Team.

Youth (aged 14-18)

Ask your primary care provider to fax a completed Medical Referral for DDMHT Psychiatric Assessment to 250-519-3518.
Submit referrals and inquiries to your local Ministry of Children and Family Development Child and Youth with Support Needs (MCFD CYSN) representative. A MCFD CYSN facilitator can assist and forward your application for services to the Developmental Disability Mental Health Team.
