Indigenous Health Career Workshops

The Island Health Indigenous Health Career Workshop is a unique approach towards increasing the number of Indigenous peoples employed by Island Health. It was developed to give students from grade eight through 12 an introduction to understanding what it takes to become a health professional. Students are challenged to produce presentations to their peers and win prizes in a highly skilled quiz based on the knowledge gained.

In the workshop students learn:

  • about key health careers
  • time management
  • grammatical correctness
  • public speaking
  • self confidence

The workshop is up to two hours in length and delivered in a classroom setting. There are no requirements for schools or First Nations status, and it is brought to you by Island Health, free of charge on Vancouver Island.
