When to choose

This service is free and available to all pregnant people. It may help if:

  • You just found out you’re pregnant and don’t know where to start
  • You need a doctor, midwife, or nurse practitioner
  • You want help getting ready for birth and caring for your baby.
  • You need support with housing, food, or income
  • You would like visits or follow-up from a public health nurse
  • You want care that feels safe for you, including Indigenous or other cultural supports.

How to begin

  1. Register — it’s free and private. You can register online or by phone.
  2. We’ll reach out to you.
Someone from our team will contact you to talk about what kind of help you'd like and connect you to care.
  3. Stay connected. Your public health nurse can stay in touch through your pregnancy and baby's first two years — helping you get the care and supports that fit your family.

What to expect

  • During pregnancy
You can talk about what’s important to you in pregnancy — like food, exercise, support, and your hopes for birth. You can get help getting ready for your baby, including what to expect when feeding and caring for your newborn.
  • After your baby is born
You can get support at home with a new baby. We can help with your feelings, your health, your baby’s health, and baby care.
  • Feeding and breastfeeding help
You can call us or come to a clinic for help with baby feeding and breastfeeding.
  • Help finding services
You can talk with us about things like transportation, housing, and food. We can connect you to health and community programs that may help.
  • Child health and shots
You can bring your baby to child health clinics and for immunizations starting at 2 months old.
  • Free handbook
You can get a free copy of Baby’s Best Chance: A Parents’ Handbook of Pregnancy and Baby Care at any Public Health Unit.
