The North Island Gender Care Clinic provides specialized services to Two-spirit, transgender, non-binary, and gender diverse persons aged 19 years and older living in North Vancouver Island (Bowser north).

A Gender Affirming Approach to Care

  • We believe that clients are the drivers in their own journey.
  • We respect each person’s gender identity & expression.
  • We see our role as supporting clients to reach their gender-affirming goals.
  • Open, honest, and confidential communication to deliver gender-affirming care.

The Gender Care Clinic is made up of a team of doctors, a nurse, a social worker, and peers that will support:

  • Surgical care planning assessments and referrals for gender affirming surgeries.
  • Hormone care planning assessment, hormone initiation and short-term follow-up
  • Pre & post-surgical care
  • Peer support

The clinic provides virtual and in-person appointments. In-person appointments are located in Courtenay and Campbell River, and virtually through BC Virtual Visit.

People can self-refer (by phone or email) or be referred by their Family Physician or Nurse Practitioner.

Once a referral has been made, a nurse or social worker will be in contact and begin an intake process.

Please note, once care is complete with us, we discharge patients back to their Family Physician or Nurse Practitioner. If you do not have a Family Physician or Nurse Practitioner, you can register at HealthLinkBC.ca
