Island Health's Long Service & Retirement Recognition program has been designed to recognize, honour and celebrate our long serving and recently retired employees, volunteers and auxiliary members for their contributions, commitment, service and dedication to providing excellent care for everyone, everywhere and every time.
If you are an Island Health employee, volunteer or auxiliary member reaching your 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 or 50 years of service milestone, or you have recently retired with 15 or more years of service, we would like to take the opportunity to express our sincere appreciation and celebrate your achievement!
Who is recognized?
The program recognizes employees, volunteers and auxiliary members who:
Between January 1 and December 31 of the current calendar year, reached a milestone of 10 years
Between January 1 and December 31 of the previous calendar year, reached a milestone of 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 years
After October 31st of the current calendar year, retired with 15 or more service years
How are recipients recognized?
Long Service & Retirement recipients with:
10 years of service will receive a thank you card and pin from their department manager
15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 years of service will receive an invitation to attend one of multiple island wide recognition events, as well a pin and a gift of the recipient’s choice selected from their milestone year gift catalogue.
15 or more years of service upon retirement will receive a gift of their choice selected from the retirement gift catalogue.
** Please note: Employees who retire during a milestone year will also receive the gift offering and pin associated with the achievement of the milestone (as described above).
When does the recognition happen?
Invitations and registration for Long Service & Retirement Events:
Invitations are distributed to all recipients with 15+ years of service in the fall. The registration period will end approximately 6 weeks after the distribution of the invitations. The invitations provide each recipient with a personalized access code that they can use to log into the online registration website and select the event and gift that they prefer. Recipients will also have an opportunity to register one guest for their event.
Events and Gifts:
For Long Service & Retirement recipients with 15+ years of service, there are 13 events scheduled between February and March in many cities across the North, Central and South regions of Island Health. View the Event Schedule.
Managers or a Director are invited to the events to honour the contributions of staff in their departments. At the events, refreshments and a buffet are served, and recipients are individually presented with their pins. Gifts will be shipped directly to the recipient’s home.
At the end of the year, recipients with 10 years of service will receive a pin and card which are presented by the department manager.
