How to get a Referral:

Your primary healthcare provider or Optometrist can refer you to an Ophthalmologist.

Directions:

Come in via the main entrance of the Diagnostic and treatment building, take the elevators to the second floor. Walk straight down the hallway, Clinic 6 is on the left, under the sign “Clinic 6”.

If you need to cancel your surgery, please contact your surgeon’s office with as much notice as possible, before your scheduled surgery.

Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Closed weekends and statutory holidays.

Preparing for Your Visit

Your surgeon’s office will call you with your surgical arrival time. Please expect to be at the hospital for a minimum of 2 hours.

If you require extra assistance to ambulate, please ensure that you arrange for a caregiver to accompany you to Clinic 6.

If you have cognitive decline, memory issues and/or cannot sign your own consent, please have a family member or close friend accompany you to Clinic 6. 

If a translator is needed, bringing a family member or friend to translate is encouraged. Island health can provide translation services over the phone if required.

Surgical Day Instructions:

1. You can eat breakfast as you normally would on the morning of surgery as directed unless advised otherwise by your Ophthalmologist.
2. Please take all your prescribed medications as directed unless advised otherwise by your Ophthalmologist.
3. Check in at Clinic 6 for your surgery.   
4. Bring an updated list of your medications with you to the hospital.
5. Please bring your BC Services Card or driver license, your cell phone and form of payment for paid lenses (Credit card or cheque)
6. No eye make-up, nail polish, jewelry, earrings or necklaces.
7. Wear comfortable clothing, but no thick hooded sweaters or cardigans.
8. No scented products please.
9. Please have a driver with a working cell phone who will remain in the hospital or within a 10 minute drive from the hospital. Please bring your phone to contact your ride.
10. You must have a responsible adult to pick you up from Clinic 6 and stay with you for 24 hours after surgery if you have received IV sedation.
11. A prescription for post operative medication will be given to you by your surgeon’s office at your pre-operative visit.
12. Post-operative instructions will be provided by your surgeon’s office at your pre-operative visit.
13. Follow-up appointment with your surgeon will be provided to you by their office.
