Building Description

Legion Manor offers independent affordable, independent retirement (private pay), and assisted living (publicly subsidized) suites for seniors, nestled on five acres of beautifully landscaped grounds in the heart of the picturesque Saanich Peninsula. Conveniently located on a local bus route, close to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, shopping, and professional offices.   

Building Amenities

Large dining room, private dining room, library, living/activity room, and a sunroom as well as the beautifully landscaped grounds with a walking trail around the property, beauty salon (pay for service), spa bath tub (pay for service), foot care nurse (pay for service), shuttle van for medical and dental appointments (pay for service), and our own 14 passenger bus for outings and excursions.

Applicants must be 55+ years of age or older. 

 

Neighbourhood/Community Amenities

Public transportation stops in front of the property. Shopping, banking, and professional offices are within 1.5 kilometres. The Saanich Peninsula Hospital and Mount Newton Center Society are within two kilometres.

Philosophy of Care

We are dedicated to providing safe, friendly, home-like seniors’ housing in a tranquil, rural environment.   

Type of Accommodation
    • 20 Publicly Subsidized Assisted Living Suites: One-bedroom suites with partial kitchens (with a microwave and fridge with freezer), full bathroom (with walk in showers), living room and a patio or balcony, approximately 550 square feet in size. Access to regular scheduled home support workers.

Cost

Residents pay 70% of their after-tax income up to a maximum rate. This covers the cost of food, cleaning, linen laundry, accommodation, and subsidized personal care. For more information on monthly cost and additional expenses, please visit this website and reach out to Legion Manor. 

Special Recreational Opportunities

Our Recreation Coordinator plans and organizes a wide range of programs and activities including social, spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional and vocational programs. Our 14-passenger bus takes residents on shopping trips, meal outings & excursions to points of interest around town. 

Accessibility

The independent retirement and assisted living suites are all accessible with a few fully wheelchair accessible suites. Two large elevators allow access to the second and third floors. 

Motorized Scooter Policy
    • Outdoor scooters are not allowed inside the main building  

    • Complementary scooter storage is provided (if available) for personal scooters  

    • A complementary scooter is available for residents to borrow upon completion of our Scooter Safety Course  

    • Use of a motorized wheelchair needs to be assessed by management, and possibly an occupational therapist, in order to allow indoor usage 

Pet Policy

Legion Manor has a no pet policy. We welcome visiting pets but they need to always remain on leash and under control. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. 

Smoking Policy

Legion Manor is a non-smoking building. Smoking and vaping are only allowed off property. Some residents have been grandfathered into being allowed to smoke onsite. 

Safety/Security Features
    • Secured entrance with individual suite entry phone system  

    • Closed circuit security system monitoring the interior and exterior of the building  

    • 24-hour emergency response system  

    • All independent retirement and assisted living suites are equipped with sprinkler systems, smoke and heat detectors 

    • A backup generator on site provides electricity in the event of a power outage   

Any Other Amenities
    • You do not need to be a veteran or a Legion member to apply for housing at Legion Manor  

    • Heat pumps in all independent retirement and assisted living suites  

    • Access to a family doctor   

    • The whole community is on 5 acres of park-like property in the Saanich Peninsula

Parking

Is limited and not guaranteed upon being offered a suite. Anyone wishing to have a parking spot needs to have proof of insurance and actively use the vehicle themselves. Only one parking spot will be allotted to each suite (even if there is double occupancy).

Visiting Information

As this is the residents’ home, visiting hours are open to family and friends.

During viral respiratory illness season (typically December - March), we follow the Provincial Health Officer’s direction to help protect residents from respiratory illness. 

 

Provincial policy requires all visitors to be informed: "Violence, foul language and abusive behaviours are not acceptable. Verbal threats or acts of violence will not be tolerated and may result in removal from this facility and/or prosecution.”
