COVID-19 outbreak at Hart House long-term care home in Victoria

One staff member who worked in the home has tested positive for COVID-19. Contact tracing by Island Health’s Public Health team is underway to identify anyone potentially exposed and the staff member is isolating at home. At this time, no residents are experiencing symptoms. Communication with staff, residents and their families is ongoing.

Enhanced control measures have been put in place at the home and Island Health is working with leadership and staff to protect the health and safety of all residents and staff.

COVID-19 Outbreak at The Gardens at Qualicum Beach declared over

Island Health declared a COVID-19 outbreak at The Gardens on December 19 after one staff member tested positive. No other cases in staff or residents were identified related to this outbreak. The outbreak is now declared over.

The Gardens is owned and operated by the McIntosh family. Their team is to be commended for the swift and professional response to this outbreak, and ensuring no residents were affected.

Update to outbreak at Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence in Nanaimo

Island Health’s outbreak response has identified one additional case of COVID-19 related to the outbreak which was declared at Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence long-term care home in Nanaimo.

Six residents have tested positive for COVID-19. The new case was detected through mass testing performed this week and we received confirmation of these positive results on December 31st. Communication with residents, families and staff is ongoing.

Update to outbreak at Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence

Island Health has identified one additional case of COVID-19 related to the outbreak which was declared at Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence long-term care home in Nanaimo. A second resident, who is a close contact of the first confirmed case, has tested positive for COVID-19. We received confirmation of this positive result on December 28. Communication with residents, families and staff is underway.

COVID-19 outbreaks over at West Coast General Hospital, Tsawaayuus Rainbow Gardens LTC

Island Health has declared the COVID-19 outbreaks over at West Coast General Hospital (WCGH) and Tsawaayuus Rainbow Gardens long-term care home in Port Alberni.

With the implementation of comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in acute sites, there are no longer any COVID-19 cases related to the outbreak at WCGH.

Island Health declared an outbreak at WCGH on December 1, 2020, after evidence of transmission in the medical-surgical B-wing. One patient and one staff case were identified related to this outbreak.
