How to begin
Have the following details and documents ready for yourself or the person you’re calling for:
- A valid BC Services Card
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Home address
Call the Community Access Line. We’ll ask a few questions, learn what you need, and connect you with services.

What to expect
Depending on your needs, you may get help with the following.
- Get help with daily personal care at home

Support workers can help you:
- Wash, dress, and use the toilet safely
- Get ready for the day or for bed
- Heat and serve simple meals
- Take blister-packed medications as directed
- Give your caregiver a break
This service does not cover things like housecleaning, shopping, driving, banking, or care for pets/other family members.
(Provided through Home Support) - Manage your own home support team

You (or someone you choose) can:
- Get funding to hire your own support workers
- Decide who helps you and when
- Choose what tasks they do
- Use funds for wages and basic admin costs
(Provided through Choice in Supports for Independent Living – CSIL)
- Get support to manage your breathing at home

A respiratory team can help you:
- Understand and manage your lung condition
- Use inhalers, puffers, and equipment correctly
- Notice early warning signs or flare-ups
- Build stamina for daily activities
(Provided through Community Respiratory Services)
Cost and fees
- Clinical services (social work, dietitian, nursing, respiratory care) are free.
- Other home care services may have costs, such as equipment rental.
- Home support services are government-subsidized. During your assessment, you will share financial information and pay a rate based on your income.
- Choice in Supports for Independent Living (CSIL): If you receive CSIL, you pay a daily rate based on your income (and your spouse’s income, if applicable).
