North Island Hospital heliport flight testing

As part of North Island Hospital heliport activation, Island Health will be conducting flight tests at the Comox Valley and Campbell River heliports on Tuesday, July 17th.

At approximately 9:00 a.m. Helijet, the air ambulance provider, will begin a half-hour of flight tests at the North Island Hospital Comox Valley heliport. This will include hovering above the heliport, landings and take-offs as well as orbits around the site. Following mock patient transfer exercises the helicopter will take off at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Helijet will begin the same approach/landing/take-off manoeuvres and exercises at the North Island Hospital Campbell River heliport beginning at 2:30 p.m. The flight test is anticipated to end at 4:00 p.m. with the helicopter’s departure from Campbell River. In the event of inclement weather or emergency, the flight tests will be rescheduled.

Since the heliports received Transport Canada certification in June, Island Health has been working with BC Emergency Health Services, the air ambulance provider, flight crews and clinical staff to complete training and orientation processes leading to heliport activations by late summer.
