Nanaimo COVID-19 testing and immunization clinics relocated

Island Health is consolidating two clinics in Nanaimo that are critical in the fight against COVID-19.

The Beban Park COVID-19 immunization clinic and the Vancouver Island University testing and collection clinic are relocating to the Nanaimo North Town Centre at 4750 Rutherford Road. Both clinics will be in the same unit (Unit #114, former location of Urban Planet), but with a wall between them and separate entrances/exits to ensure everyone’s health and safety.

The COVID-19 testing and collection site opened at Nanaimo North Town Centre on Tuesday, November 9, and accepts appointments daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As with all other Island Health testing and collection sites, COVID-19 testing is by appointment only. Drop-in testing is not available. Access is via the exterior of the mall.

The immunization clinic will begin operations in the new location on Tuesday, November 16 and is large enough to accommodate everyone who is eligible for vaccine, including younger patients in a comfortable, kid-friendly space. Appointments are recommended to ensure you don’t have to wait in line, and are required for booster doses.

Access to the immunization clinic will be from inside the mall. See our clinic listing for days and times of operation: https://covid19.islandclinics.ca. Book your appointment online at www.getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca, or by calling 1-833-838-2323.

Need a test?

To determine whether you require a COVID-19 test, please use the bc.thrive.health self-assessment tool. If testing is recommended, call: 1-844-901-8442 from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily, and expect to hear back from an Island Health representative within 24 hours to schedule a test.

At present, tests are being booked for the same-day or within 24 hours. Please have your personal health number (or your child’s) available when booking a test and when arriving at the collection site.

For information about self-isolation before and after testing, please visit the BCCDC website.

We would like to share our appreciation with Vancouver Island University and the City of Nanaimo for supporting Island Health’s pandemic response this past year, and we look forward to this new partnership with Nanaimo North Town Centre.
