Update to outbreak on Transitional Care Unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital

Island Health’s outbreak response has identified two additional cases of COVID-19 related to the outbreak declared on the Transitional Care Unit at NRGH.

One case in a patient and one case in a staff member have been identified through follow-up testing. In total, six patients and one staff member have now tested positive for COVID-19 in relation to this outbreak.

The outbreak continues to be limited to the Transitional Care Unit. The outbreak was declared on November 1 after evidence of transmission within the unit.

Contact tracing and testing continues and communication with staff and patients is ongoing.
