Two new COVID-19 cases linked to Saanich Peninsula Hospital outbreak

Island Health has confirmed two additional staff members have tested positive for COVID-19, related to the outbreak at Saanich Peninsula Hospital.

No additional patients have tested positive. To date, there have been eight staff members and nine patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Sadly, Island Health can also confirm a second death related to the outbreak. Out of respect for the privacy of this individual and their family, we will not be sharing any further details.

The testing continues to confirm that the outbreak is limited to acute care areas of the hospital and no new sources of transmission have been identified since the outbreak was declared on December 1. Patients in the acute care areas continue to be closely monitored for symptoms and staff testing continues.

The hospital remains closed to acute admissions. The emergency department remains open and ready to provide safe care. If you require emergency care, please visit the emergency room immediately.

The Saanich Peninsula Hospital laboratory service outpatient collections have temporarily moved to our Keating Cross Road lab, located at 2140A Keating Cross Road. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It is important to note that other outpatient services, including medical imaging and day surgery, are open and we want people to know that it is safe to access these services.
