Saanich Peninsula outbreak update: two additional COVID-19 cases

Island Health has confirmed two additional people have tested positive for COVID-19 related to the outbreak at Saanich Peninsula Hospital. One additional patient and one additional staff member have tested positive, bringing the total number of cases to date, to eleven staff members and eleven patients. Sadly, to date, there have been three deaths linked to the outbreak. 
There have been no new sources of transmission identified since the outbreak was declared on December 1. Testing continues to confirm that the outbreak is limited to acute care areas of the hospital. Patients in the acute care areas continue to be closely monitored for symptoms and patient and staff testing continues. 
The hospital remains closed to acute admissions. The emergency department is open and ready to provide safe care. If you require emergency care, please visit the emergency room immediately.
The Saanich Peninsula Hospital laboratory service outpatient collections have temporarily moved to our Keating Cross Road lab, located at 2140A Keating Cross Road. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
It is important to note that other outpatient services, including medical imaging and day surgery, are open and we want people to know that it is safe to access these services.
