Island Health COVID-19 outbreak updates

Island Health has declared five outbreaks over, while declaring five new outbreaks.

Outbreaks declared over:
The Summit long-term care home in Victoria

In total, 11 resident cases were attributed to this outbreak.

The Summit is owned and operated by Island Health.

Eagle Ridge Manor long-term care home in Port Hardy

In total, 11 resident cases were attributed to this outbreak.

Eagle Ridge Manor is owned and operated by Island Health.

Fir Park Village long-term care home in Port Alberni

In total, 13 resident cases and five staff cases were attributed to this outbreak.

Fir Park Village is owned and operated by Alberni-Clayoquot Continuing Care Society.

Saanich Peninsula Hospital long-term care units

In total, 40 resident cases were attributed to this outbreak. The outbreak remained limited to the long-term care units and Saanich Peninsula Hospital was not affected.

Saanich Peninsula Hospital long-term care is owned and operated by Island Health.

Glenwarren Lodge long-term care home in Victoria

In total, 26 resident cases and 21 staff cases were attributed to this outbreak.

Glenwarren Lodge is owned and operated by Revera.

Staff at these sites are to be commended for their excellent work delivering high quality, compassionate care under challenging circumstances.

Outbreak protocols will now be ended at the sites. Enhanced infection prevention and control measures and monitoring of staff and residents for symptoms will continue.

New outbreaks:
Nanaimo Seniors Village long-term care home

Six resident cases and one staff case have been identified related to this outbreak.

Nanaimo Seniors Village is owned and operated by West Coast Seniors Housing Management.

Sluggett House long-term care home in Brentwood Bay

Four resident cases and one staff case have been identified related to this outbreak.

Sluggett House is owned and operated by Beacon Community Services.

Island View Place Care long-term care home in Saanichton – 2nd floor

Two resident cases have been identified related to this outbreak. The outbreak declaration is limited to the 2nd floor of the site.

The site is owned and operated by Island View Place Care.

Glacier View Lodge long-term care home in Courtenay – Rose unit, wings 3 & 4

Eight resident cases have been identified related to this outbreak. The outbreak declaration is limited to the Rose unit, wings 3 and 4.

Glacier View Lodge is owned and operated by Glacier View Lodge Society.

Sunridge Place long-term care home in Duncan – 2nd floor, Northridge unit

15 resident cases have been identified related to this outbreak. The outbreak declaration is limited to the 2nd floor.

Sunridge Place is owned and operated by Park Place Seniors Living.

The case numbers reported in this bulletin are cases that have been confirmed via PCR testing or follow up from Island Health’s case and contact management team.

In general, the following outbreak response protocols have been implemented at sites:

  • Essential visits and single designated visitor visits will continue;
  • No congregate dining or group activities;
  • Staff movement will be limited wherever possible;
  • Enhanced cleaning and infection control measures will continue;
  • Patients, families and staff are being notified;
  • Enhanced screening of all staff and patients for symptoms.

During this time, Island Health will support the sites to take any further actions required and answer questions from staff, patients and family members.
