President and Chief Executive Officer

Kathy MacNeil is a purpose drive leader committed to improving the health and care of all residents and communities in the Island Health region.  Grounded in Island Health’s vision for the future, Kathy champions accountability and cultivates a culture of quality, safety and patient-centered care.

As a relational leader, she works to create an environment where staff, medical staff, learners and partners feel supported in bringing their best to work in service to patients, residents and families. She is deeply committed to walking softly alongside Indigenous partners and ensuring Island Health services and spaces are welcoming, safe and inclusive - honoring diversity and equity.

With almost 40 years of progressive leadership experience in health care, Kathy began her career as a physiotherapist. She remains grounded in her purpose to enable people and systems to achieve their highest potential and functionality. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University and a Masters of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University. Kathy also holds  a Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) and the ICD-D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

She serves on the Boards of the Health Employers Association of British Columbia, Health Quality BC, and HealthCare Can.
