Community Spiritual Visitors

Island Health’s Spiritual Health program recognizes the importance of connecting patients and residents with representatives/leaders from their own spiritual/religious traditions in order to promote spiritual and emotional wellbeing. In Island Health such individuals are called Community Spiritual Visitors.

Community Spiritual Visitors (CSV) are:

  • Individuals designated by their spiritual, religious or cultural community to visit members who are patients or residents in an Island Health facility.
  • To abide by the Community Spiritual Visitors Guidelines.
  • Invited to be added to the confidential online CSV Directory (accessible only to Island Health staff).  Being added to this directory will help staff contact you should a member of your tradition request a visit. To be added to the directory please contact your nearest Spiritual Health Practitioner.
  • Able to receive a parking pass to help support their connections with members of their own communities. To obtain a parking pass please complete this form and return to the nearest Spiritual Health Practitioner.
  • Encouraged to regularly remind their members to contact them directly if they would like support when they are admitted into an Island Health facility.  Such notice will help expedite this support as the CSV will already have awareness that a member has been admitted.
  • Welcome to utilize designated spaces (SPH, RJH, VGH, CDH, NRGH) to gather and/or support the spiritual practices of their members.  Contact the site SHP for information on accessing and using such spaces.
