About West Coast General Hospital

The West Coast General Hospital is a community hospital with 52 acute beds. A separate 32-bed multilevel care facility is located on the same property (Westhaven).

The hospital was constructed in 2001 and offers 24-hour emergency room services, ambulatory care, acute medical/surgical and psychiatry services, and includes cardio pulmonary, diabetes education, laboratory, medical imaging, nutrition counselling, pharmacy and physiotherapy services. Clinical specialists include anesthesiology, general surgery, urology, obstetrics/gynecology, paediatrics and radiology, along with our strong family physicians.

Volunteer Opportunities

NEW! Ambassador program

We are recruiting for a new program that supports the volunteer experience. Spend 1:1 time with patients, providing them with useful information and hand hygiene education. Help to make the patient experience more comfortable!

Auxiliary

Help in the Auxiliary gift shop (100 strong!); participate and support Auxiliary fundraising activities.

STEP UP Youth volunteer program

We have partnered with Alberni District Secondary School for the Step Up Youth Program. Intake for this program will be September of each school year. We are always looking for Youth Team Leaders to support the team of youth volunteers.

Friendly visiting

Visit with long stay patients on the medical/Surgical unit.
