Building Description

Built in 1979, in the mid-island area, just five minutes from the Vesuvius ferry terminal and 20 minutes from the Fulford ferry terminal. Rectangle configuration - 13 beds in a secure dementia care unit.

Greenwoods Eldercare Society is here to provide:

  • specialized services that promote the ability of seniors and those with special needs in our Salt Spring and Southern Gulf Islands community to continue to live at home with family support and/or community services
  • in partnership with health and local authorities, residential care to adult members of our community whose complex care needs are such that they can no longer manage at home

Type of Accommodation

51 private rooms with an outdoor window looking into one of our gardens. Each room has its own bathroom.

Cost

Residents pay 80% of their after-tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation.

Special Recreational Opportunities

Extensive recreation program includes art, music, exercise and craft therapies.

Motorized Scooter Policy

Scooters must be managed by the resident and stored in a safe and accessible manner. 

Pet Policy

Visiting pets only. Visiting pets must have all vaccinations up to date and be on leash - and under the control of the owner at all times.

We follow Island Health's policy:

As a health care provider, Island Health has an obligation to promote good health practices. We are committed to ensuring a safe, healthy and clean environment for everyone.  

Smoking and vaping is not permitted on any Island Health property. This includes all buildings, grounds and parking lots.

Visiting Information

Greenwoods Eldercare Society expects visitors to conduct themselves in a manner that is respectful and peceful when visiting the Greenwoods Complex Care and Braehaven Assisted Living residences. Visitors must be mindful of the fact that both residences are home to the residents and it is expected that the residences be treated as a home. Smoking is not permitted in either residence - smoking is strictly limited to areas off the properties. Greenwoods Eldercare Society reserves the right to place conditions on visitation for those that do not demonstrate respect and consideration for the residents and the properties.

During influenza season (typically December-March), to help protect patients from the flu, all visitors will be expected to wear a mask in our facilities if they have not had a flu shot. For more information, please read our Frequently Asked Questions and Influenza Protection Policy.

Provincial policy requires all visitors to be informed:  "Violence, foul language and abusive behaviours are not acceptable. Verbal threats or acts of violence will not be tolerated and may result in removal from this facility and/or prosecution.”
