Built in 1982; addition in 1991, the building is a West Coast style one-storey building with approximately 48,983 square feet of gross floor space. It is situated on approximately 47 acres of land in East Courtenay affording a magnificent view of the Comox Glacier and Beaufort Mountain Range. It is just minutes from downtown Courtenay, Comox and St. Joseph’s General Hospital but amid rural natural surroundings.
Features of the building include a large central lounge and open dining space, smaller lounges, dining spaces and activity space, a Serenity Room, resident computer station, Tuck Shop, fitness room, hair salon, fenced gardens, patio spaces and walking paths.
Services include: on-site laundry for personal items, pet therapy, contracted pharmacy, occupational therapy, podiatry, and dysphagia (swallowing) management services, services of a dietitian, medical lab support, volunteer support and recreational opportunities.

Downtown Courtenay and Comox are close by and easily accessed by taxi or HandyDart.

Our holistic approach to care at Glacier View Lodge flows from our Mission Statement and our Resident Bill of Rights. We embrace each person – resident, family member, staff member and volunteer as an integral part of our community as a whole.
We believe that quality of life can be experienced at each stage of one’s journey, including end of life, when supported by a loving and caring community. Everything that we do to enhance the quality of life of another person is of spiritual significance and spirituality is woven into the fabric of each person’s journey, from birth to death.
We believe that this understanding contributes to the general well being of our community and enhances the quality of life experiences for all who live and work at Glacier View Lodge.
Type of Accommodation
102 single occupant rooms with 2-piece ensuites. All rooms have a bay window with either a garden or mountain view:
- 27 are in a secure unit
- 75 are on four wings in the main unit
Residents pay up to 80% of their after-tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation.
Special Recreational Opportunities
Special recreational opportunities include daily exercises and group activities for all levels of cognition – well supported by community volunteers, music therapy and Snoezelen.
The facility is on one level for easy wheelchair/walker access in and out. Gardens and outdoor patios are accessible by wheelchair and Broda chair.
Motorized Scooter Policy
Scooters are not permitted for interior use. They may be used on the grounds or when out on HandyDart. Motorized wheelchairs may be used with special permission based on need, safe operation and an OT assessment.
Glacier View Lodge has three cats that reside at the facility, along with several birds.
Residents’ pets can visit but not reside here. Visiting pets must be well groomed, well behaved and have current vaccinations. Pet visitation volunteers participate in the BC Pets & Friends Program. Pet therapy dogs have undergone dog obedience training.
Smoking is not permitted inside a 10 metre perimeter of Glacier View Lodge premises. “Premises” is defined as property, all buildings and out buildings of the Lodge.

Any Other Amenities
Community programs for non-residents include Adult Day Program, Community Bathing Program and respite care.
Parking is free but limited.
During influenza season (typically December-March), to help protect patients from the flu, all visitors will be expected to wear a mask in our facilities if they have not had a flu shot. For more information, please read our Frequently Asked Questions and Influenza Protection Policy.
Provincial policy requires all visitors to be informed: "Violence, foul language and abusive behaviours are not acceptable. Verbal threats or acts of violence will not be tolerated and may result in removal from this facility and/or prosecution."
