Indigenous Health Initiative Plan (AHIP)

The Indigenous Health Initiative Program (AHIP) supports community-based projects in Indigenous communities by administering funds through the Indigenous Health Program of Island Health.

All funding is applied for through the request for proposals (RFP), which is mailed to First Nations, Metis Organizations and Friendship Centres on Vancouver Island. These AHIP funds may be accessed for projects that support the following six strategic themes:

  • enhance relationships and collaboration
  • enhance access and capacity
  • strengthen Cultural Safety and Humility
  • be innovative
  • be accountable
  • work with others to address the social determinants of health

We are saddened and disappointed by the vandalism that occurred last weekend near Ladysmith involving the removal of red dresses that were on display along the Island Highway to bring awareness to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG).
