Vice President – Priority Populations & Initiatives
In the role of Vice President – Priority Populations and Initiatives, Cheryl leads strategy development, and monitors the progress of our integrated system of care for key populations and services. In partnership with the Vice President – Clinical Service Delivery and Vice President – Medicine, Quality and Academic Affairs, Cheryl ensures there is a fully integrated approach to the development of strategy and implementation into service delivery. She also works with our partners in addressing the social determinants of health to create vibrant and healthy communities.
Cheryl has demonstrated her passion for key populations, ensuring organizational decision making is focussed on our most vulnerable people and communities. Prior to taking on her current role, Cheryl was Chief, Community health and Care for Island Health. She also held previous senior leadership roles in Child, Youth and Family Services, Public Health, Mental Health and Substance Use and Seniors Health.
Cheryl has a Masters of Public Health and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas. During university, she spent two years in Mérida, Yucatán where she had the opportunity to become fluent in Spanish and see first-hand the health care issues associated with poverty. Prior to arriving at Island Health in 2009, she served 8 years as the CEO for Columbia Valley Community Health Center in North Central Washington, where integrated medical, behavioral and dental services are delivered for a low-income population.
